Accessing Crip Stories with Sick + Twisted Theatre
Tuesday, November 5th, 12 to 1 PM CST
Too often arts organizations focus their access efforts on facilitating an audience’s participation without considering what they’re asking artists to participate in. Artists themselves deserve just as much consideration and inclusion when designing a creative performance and program. Artists with disabilities have an understanding of the truths of the human condition that can only be arrived at by confronting the challenges and opportunities presented to us by our exceptional bodies.
Join us as we speak with Debbie Patterson, the founding and current Artistic Director of Sick + Twisted Theatre for an engaging conversation about the importance of facilitating access for artists not just to promote inclusion, but as a powerful tool for social change that benefits us all.
ASL interpretation will be provided.

A11y Tokyo Meetup: How to think beyond the binary with design
Thursday, November 14, 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM JST | Yahoo! Japan & Zoom
CJ Hostetter (non-binary, they/them) has been working as a specialist in UX and design thinking for over 10 years. On the teams they worked with, both in Japan and international agencies, they also noticed that many developers had never met someone who was transgender or gender non-conforming (GNC). This led them to realize that much of the world, especially in the tech industry, is divided into "male" or "female," leaving those individuals who fall outside the binary without support. As an experienced designer, they decided to speak up about this issue. During this time, they also came to realize that they too were non-binary.
