DIY Accessibility Audits: How to Achieve and Maintain EAA Compliance

Companies all over Europe are scrambling to audit the accessibility of their websites and mobile apps, so they have a chance of fixing their WCAG compliance by the European Accessibility Act deadline of June 28th 2025.
But the other thing the need to do is maintain this level of compliance in an ongoing way. So they need to keep auditing their sites as new pages are created, and apps as their new versions deliver new features, and publish the way they are going to do this with their WCAG scores. If this is your organisation, you can either keep paying accessibility companies to do these audits, or learn how to do audits yourself.

IAAP D-A-CH Online-Seminar: Umsetzung der WAD in Österreich

Das Online-Seminar wird aufgenommen und auf dem IAAP YouTube Kanal veröffentlicht.
WAD - die Richtlinie 2016/2102 über die Barrierefreiheit von Websites und mobilen Anwendungen - wurde 2016 von der Europäischen Union verabschiedet. Diese Richtlinie gilt für Organisationen des öffentlichen Sektors der Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union. Mit dem Web-Zugänglichkeits-Gesetz (WZG), das 2019 in Kraft getreten ist, wurde die Richtlinie in Österreich umgesetzt. Das WZG regelt neben den Anforderungen an die Barrierefreiheit für die Webseiten und mobilen Anwendungen des Bundes auch Maßnahmen wie das Berichts- und Dokumentationswesen und die Überprüfung der Einhaltung der Standards.
Wie sieht es bei der Umsetzung der Richtlinie aktuell in Österreich aus? Dazu haben wir Mira Nausner eingeladen, Expertin für digitale Barrierefreiheit bei der Österreichischen Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft FFG. Die FFG ist laut WZG dafür verantwortlich, über den Status der digitalen Barrierefreiheit in Österreich zu berichten. Mira Nausner hat die Monitoring-Stelle in der FFG mit aufgebaut und kümmert sich um die technischen Grundlagen des Barrierefreiheits-Monitorings in Österreich sowie um die Zahlen, Daten und Fakten der Monitoring-Berichte.

Industrial and commercial design always has a user. We designers have been creating designs that incorporate new functions and mechanisms for mass users.
However, it has become increasingly difficult to see the smiles on users' faces just because of convenient functions, low cost, or beautiful design.
Inclusive design is to provide products and services to a diverse range of people by finding the design codes that are truly needed by working together with extreme users (disabled, elderly, non-Japanese, etc.), who have been hidden from the mass users who have been emphasized until now, from the planning stage.
In this session, we will look at the design process of With User rather than "For Used", introducing the Inclusive Design process that has actually been conducted at KOKUYO Corporation and the Inclusive Design Network.

Microsoft Disability Scholarship
The Microsoft Disability Scholarship seeks to empower students with disabilities to achieve more through access to education leading to a career in technology. The next scholarship cycle will open on January 22, 2025, and applications will be accepted until March 13, 2025.
Eight (8) $20,000 scholarships distributed over 4 years ($5,000 per year, renewable). Awards are renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, full-time or half-time enrollment, and continued enrollment in the eligible major.
ASSIST HEIDI Summer School 2025: International Summer School for Accessible Gaming
Find, adapt, create and play accessible games together with our co-designers with disability!
ASSIST HEIDI brings students and people with disabilities together, to co-design and prototype individual accessible gaming solutions with them. Students will learn the basics about disability, accessible gaming, rapid prototyping, programming and microcontrollers by hands-on project work.

The summer school is organized by the project Inclusion International, funded by the City of Vienna and supervised by many experts of the field.
